On Dec. 15, a traditional topping off ceremony was held at the construction site of Brickell City Centre's east block, marking the placing of the final piece of steel into the hotel's 40th floor. With a ceremonial tree planting and pig roast luncheon, community leaders, elected officials, and over 500 construction workers commemorated the successful construction milestone. Construction staff were given the rest of the day off after the luncheon.
"It's a huge accomplishment and cause for celebration to be topping off our first building after just breaking ground in 2012. We owe this achievement to our exceptional construction team "Swire Properties' president, Stephen Owens, said. "We are very pleased with the results. It's thrilling to see our first tower reach the top, and it's a testament to the teamwork and preparation that went into it. It also marks the debut of EAST, a Miami hotel."
EAST, Miami is artfully built into Brickell City Centre's 5.4 million square feet, offering 263 rooms and 89 serviced apartments. The hotel will also feature conference rooms, a pool, and a state-of-the-art fitness center, as well as a signature restaurant by internationally renowned La Huella and an impressive rooftop bar.
Swire Hotels' managing director, Brian Williams, said, "With the topping out of EAST, the team should be extremely proud of what they have accomplished here at Brickell City Centre. The Brickell City Centre growth as a whole is a watershed moment in Brickell's evolution, and we're thrilled with the work that's been done for us, perfectly on time, in EAST, Swire Hotels' first U.S. hotel."
"We owe this remarkable construction achievement to the men and women of our construction team who have been on site every day to keep this groundbreaking project moving forward, all while fulfilling Swire's high expectations for quality and excellence," said Louis Brais, senior project executive of Americaribe and superstructure contractor John Moriarty & Associates of Florida.
